The search for ammunition at the construction site in Vitebsk continues
March 16, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The search for ammunition at the construction site on Chkalov Street in Vitebsk is ongoing, the military unit 5524 of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus informed a BELTA correspondent.
The rich arsenal of shells found here earlier gave reason to believe that there are still munitions in the ground, the unit noted. Sappers plan to verify their assumption within one to two days.
As previously reported by BELTA, explosive ordnance was discovered by construction workers on March 14 while preparing a foundation pit for the construction of a socio-cultural facility. During the inspection of the hazardous area, sappers initially unearthed 10 Soviet-made "AO-8" bombs lying chaotically in the ground, and then stumbled upon neatly stacked shells. It is presumed that during the war years, an airfield with infrastructure and ammunition depots was located at this site. -0-
