Polotsk residents are welcoming participants of the youth marathon "65!" today.

Polotsk residents will today welcome participants of the "65!" youth marathon, the Vitebsk Regional Committee of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM) informed a BELTA correspondent. The ancient city will receive the relay, which started on June 15 in Minsk, at the "Liberators of Polotsk" monument, where a rally will be held with the participation of Great Patriotic War veterans, youth, and residents. Marathon participants will carry the "Flame of Memory," lit from the Eternal Flame at Victory Square in the capital, through the places of military glory of Polotsk. The handover of the "Victory Canvas" by activists of the regional BRSM committee will also be a highly symbolic event of the campaign. Sewn from more than 1.5 thousand patches, it holds the memories of veterans from all districts of the Vitebsk region. Similar canvases will be solemnly assembled in each region of the country, and the overall "Victory Canvas" will adorn the Museum of the Great Patriotic War in Minsk after the marathon concludes, the sources noted. Numerous events prepared by members of the Polotsk BRSM committee will take place during the marathon. For instance, at stylized military tents, anyone will be able to write words of gratitude and appreciation to veterans and send them by field post. The "Thank You," "Victory Salute," "Generations' Connection," "Thank You for Life" campaigns, and others are filled with the energy of youth and the joy of life. Each of them symbolizes the youth's gratitude to veterans and their respectful attitude towards the heroic past of their homeland. The festive program of the day will conclude with a concert featuring stars of the Belarusian stage. Grodno will be the next city to host the youth marathon dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
