Polotsk was chosen as the youth capital of Belarus

Polotsk has been named the Youth Capital of Belarus following the results of a republican competition, the press service of the Ministry of Education reported.

Eleven cities of the country participated in the competition, with four reaching the final. "The cities were evaluated based on a number of criteria, including territory improvement, leisure opportunities, access to quality education, and recreation. Polotsk became the best in all areas in 2016, as well as in its plans for 2017," the press service noted.

The first thematic events will be held in Polotsk at the end of January. Throughout the year, the city will serve as a youth hub for republican and international events: festivals, campaigns, projects, meetings, and conferences. Belarusian and foreign pupils, students, and working youth will participate in them.

The "Youth Capital of Belarus" competition is being held for the second consecutive year. In 2016, the title was held by Baranovichi. The city hosted over 130 events of regional, republican, and international significance, including the student forum "I Say 'Yes!'", the "Leader of the Year" competition, and the open dialogue "The Role of Youth in the Country's Development," among others.

The organizer of the competition for the selection of the republican youth capital is the Ministry of Education.
