Polotsk border guards stopped an attempt to violate the State Border
On the morning of June 7, in the Braslav district, border guards from Polotsk detained 3 citizens of Georgia and 2 citizens of the Russian Federation for attempting to violate the State Border from Belarus to Latvia.
The citizens of Georgia, born in 1967, 1981, 1984, had repeatedly attempted to enter the European Union through Belarusian road border crossing points. However, in all 10 cases, they were returned by representatives of the border guard service of the neighboring state.
As a result, the Caucasians met in Minsk with the citizens of Russia (born in 1968 and 1996) – a mother and daughter, and planned to cross the Belarusian border in the Baltic section, but illegally this time – by any means necessary.
Having arrived in the Braslav region, they buried their passports in the forest and headed on foot towards the Belarusian-Latvian border. But their plans were thwarted due to the vigilance of the border guards.
As the violators explain, they expected that without documents, the Latvian border guards would detain them to establish their identity, and then all five would apply for refugee status. After that, they hoped to stay in Europe.
The border violators were taken to the border post for proceedings. Protocols were drawn up against them for intentional illegal crossing of the State Border of the Republic of Belarus. After paying the fine, they were expelled from the border zone.
For reference, as of June 9, the Polotsk border guards have detained 18 border violators and 170 violators of border regime.
