The Polotsk City Executive Committee presented a project to participate in the EU energy saving development program

June 23, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Polotsk City Executive Committee has submitted an energy saving project to the European Commission for participation in the EU's CIUDAD program "Sustainable Energy Development in Cities of the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI) region," Deputy Chairman of the Polotsk City Executive Committee Nikolai Ilyushenok told a BELTA correspondent. The project envisages the development of a city energy saving strategy for the period up to 2020 and the construction of a pilot social infrastructure facility using the latest technologies in heat and energy saving. Spain, Morocco, and Germany are acting as partners. As Nikolai Ilyushenok noted, their choice is not accidental; it is based on the extensive practical experience of these countries in implementing modern energy-saving technologies and using alternative energy sources. The project will be financed by the European Union. Polotsk's project application for the competition was selected by the European Commission from over a thousand. The public utility society "German-Belarusian House for the Promotion of Economic, Scientific, Technological, Investment and Cultural Development in the city of Karlsruhe" assisted Polotsk residents in preparing the project. If this project is implemented, Polotsk will be able to join the "Covenant of Mayors," a European project that allows for solving global environmental problems at the local level, in particular, reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by 20% by 2020. The instrument for implementing this plan is the exchange of best practices in energy saving. In addition, participation in the "Covenant of Mayors" provides access to resources that ensure the implementation of the EU's climate and environmental protection policy. -0-
