Polotsk State University opens enrollment for two new specialties in 2016
Polotsk State University is opening admissions for two new specialties in 2016, announced Olga Petrovich, the executive secretary of the university's admissions committee.
PSU is one of the largest universities in the Vitebsk region, both in terms of the range of specialties and the number of students (over 12,000 students, master's students, and postgraduate students study in 9 faculties). Starting this year, the university is opening two new specialties: "Technical Labor and Technical Creativity" and "Service Labor and Fine Arts".
"These are pedagogical specialties, but graduates will be able to work in the education sector as well as find their calling in individual labor activities. During their studies, students gain knowledge in various technologies: wood processing, metal processing, natural materials processing, fabric processing, and food processing," noted Olga Petrovich.
She emphasized that the opening of new specializations is driven by labor market demand. For example, last year training was launched in the field of "design and production of software-controlled electronic devices" with the qualification of "engineer-electronics programmer".
Polotsk State University is the only university in the country that trains specialists for the petrochemical industry in such specializations as "chemical technology of natural energy sources and carbon materials", "design, construction, and operation of oil and gas pipelines and storage facilities". The university trains specialists in rare for the republic specializations: "machines and apparatus of chemical industries and construction materials enterprises", "geodesy". In total, in 2016, Polotsk State University announced admissions for 33 full-time specializations, 9 part-time specializations, and 2 distance learning specializations, as well as 11 part-time specializations with a reduced study period.
