The Polotsk amulet convenes the first patchwork art festival-competition "Polotsk-Quilt"

August 12, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Polotsk talisman is the first patchwork art festival-competition "Polotsk-Quilt". The open competition for patchwork craftswomen will be held at the Polotsk Center of Crafts and National Cultures in early October, Nina Yarmukh, head of the "Roshva" patchwork sewing club, told a BELTA correspondent. The "Roshva" club, which created the famous Polotsk talisman – a huge patchwork cloth with an area of over 90 sq.m, initiated this creative competition called "Peace to My Land". Amateur artists and creative teams working in various patchwork sewing techniques are invited to participate in the competition. The competition will be held in two nominations. The "Traditional" nomination will feature works made according to the canons of the "quilt" technique: a colorful top, batting, backing, and quilting. In the "Modern" nomination, any technique can be used. Craftswomen from Russia have already confirmed their participation in the competition. Invitations have been sent to craftswomen from Germany, Denmark, and Lithuania. In addition to the competition part, during the festival, masters from the "Roshva" club will conduct master classes and share the secrets of their art. The Polotsk talisman, consisting of more than 400 patchwork squares made by craftswomen from Belarus, Russia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Denmark, Moldova, Bulgaria, Estonia, Argentina, and Scotland, will become a kind of textbook for the duration of the competition, with the help of which various patchwork techniques can be seen firsthand. As Nina Yarmukh noted, festivals of this kind are quite popular all over the world. They are held in France, Spain, the USA, Austria, and Japan. Russia and Ukraine also organize their patchwork sewing festivals. According to the interlocutor, such meetings benefit not only lovers of decorative and applied arts but also help manufacturers of fabrics and needlework items promote their products. -0-
