The Polotsk overpass in Vitebsk is planned to be built by 2021
Financing schemes for the construction of the overpass were discussed at the construction site. Currently, about Br100 million is needed to complete all the work. Br40 million are planned to be utilized this year, and the rest in 2020. The main funds are planned to be obtained through a loan from the Development Bank, as well as by including the Polotsk overpass in the State Investment Program for the next year. "I think this is the most acceptable option," noted Sergei Rumas.
Currently, the construction of the new bridge in Vitebsk is construction site #1 in the city. All work is planned to be completed by 2021.
The construction of the overpass began in 2010, and after some time, work was stopped due to lack of funding. In December 2018, specialists resumed work. Currently, the reconstruction of all utilities is underway, and the construction of four monolithic supports (there will be 17 pairs in total) is proceeding in parallel. In April, the old overpass will be dismantled in stages. It is planned that the length of the future bridge will be 144 m, and the width - 45 m.
The Polotsk overpass is a central transit artery connecting Kosmonavtov Avenue with Titova and Leningradskaya streets. They provide both internal and external connections for the Vitebsk road network in the direction of Polotsk, Gorodok, and St. Petersburg. The bridge had been in a dilapidated state for over 10 years. At the request of the prosecutor's office, an inspection was carried out, and specialists found that further operation of the bridge was impossible. Traffic for vehicles and pedestrians was closed on November 15, 2018.
