A monument-dedication to the city, a youth forum, and advice from citizens. Polotsk is preparing for the Day of Belarusian Written Language
According to the Deputy Chairman of the District Executive Committee, Pyotr Pietkievich, the celebration should reflect the entire significance of the event, unite the nation on the basis of the continuity of traditions and respect for rich spiritual heritage.
The "Psalter" by the great Polotsk resident became the first printed book for all South and East Slavic peoples; it was published earlier than Martin Luther's German Bible and 47 years before the "Apostol" by the Russian first printer Ivan Fedorov. With his deeds, Francysk Skaryna placed himself on par with the leaders of thought and titans of spirit of the European Renaissance era, influencing the deep sources of national culture and the national self-determination of Belarusians.
Having achieved the highest academic degrees, the brilliant polyglot thinker, Doctor of Medicine, writer, translator, entrepreneur, artist, undertook the educational cause, which did not bring significant material benefits. He translated the Bible into a language understandable to the common person – "for the common people for good learning," and called the book a source of light, knowledge, wisdom, and medicine for the soul. Our outstanding compatriot urged us to honor the native word as a sacred thing, to love the fatherland, and not to spare efforts to serve our people with dignity. It is under the sign of the greatness of his feat that we should celebrate the anniversary date.
Monument of Statehood
It is symbolic that in 2017, the patriarch of Belarusian cities will also be celebrating his anniversary, marking 1155 years since his first mention in chronicles. By the Day of Writing, it is planned to open a commemorative sign "Polotsk – the Cradle of Belarusian Statehood," which will emphasize the historical role of the ancient capital as a center where the foundations of national culture, education, and spirituality were laid.

Аргкамітэт па падрыхтоўцы да Дня пісьменства быў створаны ў Полацку яшчэ ў маі. На адным з яго пасяджэнняў прыняты шэраг прапаноў, якія ўмоўна падзяляюцца на тры блокі. Першы раскрые асноўную тэматыку падзеі, другі – пазнаёміць з праектамі, што сталі візітнай карткай Полаччыны, трэці – пашырыць кола ўдзельнікаў і дазволіць рэалізаваць свае ініцыятывы разнастайным асобам і арганізацыям.
Агульная праграма свята будзе зацверджана на рэспубліканскім узроўні і аб’яднае шматлікія асветніцкія, выставачныя, навуковыя, выдавецкія, творчыя праекты, што падкрэсляць адзінства беларускага друкаванага слова з гісторыяй і культурай народа.

Першымі свае таленты прадставяць юныя палачане. Нацыянальны маладзёжны форум “Скарынаўскія дні ў Полацку” засведчыць пераемнасць традыцый і павагу моладзі да мінуўшчыны свайго народа. Падарункамі ад устаноў адукацыі стануць макеты архітэктурных помнікаў, у тым ліку страчаных, створаныя школьнікамі і настаўнікамі.
Падчас Дня пісьменства мяркуецца правесці Еўфрасіннеўскія педагагічныя чытанні, міжнародны літаратурны форум і фінал адкрытага конкурсу аматарскіх фільмаў “Я здымаю кіно” ў намінацыі “Экранізацыя твораў беларускіх аўтараў (пісьменнікаў)”. Прэзентацыі сваіх дасягненняў падрыхтуюць працоўныя калектывы Полаччыны, асобнымі праектамі вызначацца ліцэі, каледжы і Полацкі дзяржаўны ўніверсітэт.
