Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve invites you to observe capercaillie and take a selfie with them
In the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve, from March 21 to April 31, you can witness the lekking of black grouse, and if you're lucky, take photos against the backdrop of these birds.
Today, the population of this most beautiful representative of the grouse family here is about 250 individuals. There are 23 black grouse leks within the reserve territory, and up to a dozen males can gather at one lek!
Observing birds at a lek is an impressive and fascinating activity. Jointly, employees of the reserve's scientific department, as well as the tourism and forest protection departments, have prepared special hides - "houses" for observation, covered with coniferous branches. Such shelters blend harmoniously into the surrounding landscape and are located at the edge of the lek, not disturbing the birds during the most crucial season of the year - their mating season. In such "hides" , ecotourists can conveniently observe all stages of black grouse lekking: the arrival of birds, lekking on trees and the ground, and spectacular fights between males.
