Dear residents of Sharkovshchyna District!

I sincerely congratulate you on the 75th anniversary of the formation of Sharkovshchyna District!

The land of Sharkovshchyna has given the world many glorious names. Here were born the gardener and breeder Ivan Sikora, the famous linguist who revived Hebrew as a language of communication Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, the poet and writer Mikhas Mashara, People's Artist of Belarus Pavel Dubashinsky, the full holder of the Order of Labor Glory, the tractor driver Konstantin Dobrovolsky. For many decades, the fate of the Hero of the Soviet Union, the brave front-line commander Roman Stepanovich Kudrin, was connected with the life of the district.

During the Great Patriotic War, the residents of the district heroically fought for the freedom and independence of the Motherland. Over 1100 countrymen died on the battlefields fighting the fascist invaders and in partisan detachments. The occupiers destroyed more than 2,000 civilians.

The rich natural and historical-cultural heritage, and the modern development of the region determine its investment and tourist attractiveness. The workers of the district contribute to the economy and social development of the Pridvinye region. Two years ago, a modern central district hospital was opened in the urban settlement, new dairy farms are being reconstructed and built, and the district center and settlements are being improved.

The hallmark of the district is the holiday dedicated to the Apple Spas. In the village of Alashki, in the garden laid out by Ivan Pavlovich Sikora, guests from all over Belarus and neighboring countries gather. In 2014, a museum was opened in the house where the breeder lived and worked.

There are 18 objects on the territory of the district included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus.

Drawing on its accumulated potential, Sharkovshchyna District is improving production technologies, bringing order to the land, and developing its social sphere and tourist infrastructure. The wisdom, hard work, and talent of its residents allow for steady progress.

May your land flourish, become more beautiful, and richer! I wish you good health, peace, kindness, and well-being!

Sincerely,

Nikolai Sherstnev,

Chairman

of the Vitebsk Regional

Executive Committee
