I congratulate you on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia!
The Union State is the flagship of integration in the post-Soviet space. The Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation were the first to implement a model of interaction in the economic, political, and social spheres in practice. The accumulated experience is currently used in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union, the Customs Union, and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). There is steady progress forward.
Together we are exploring space, building nuclear power plants, implementing programs in mechanical engineering and radio electronics, and systematically interacting in foreign and defense policy.
Strong ties are being built at the interregional level based on good neighborliness. The Vitebsk region has concluded 80 agreements on trade, economic, scientific, technical, and humanitarian cooperation with the administrations of the regions of the Russian Federation, of which the regional executive committee has concluded 22, and district executive committees have concluded 58.
The foreign trade turnover of the Vitebsk region with the Russian Federation in 2013 amounted to 4,626.1 million US dollars, with an export growth rate of 105%. Economic cooperation is carried out with all federal districts of Russia.
We actively interact in the fields of education, culture, and sports. A vivid example is the "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk" International Arts Festival, supported by the Union State, and Belarusian-Russian forums, conferences, and sports tournaments are held. Belarusian youth study at universities in the Russian Federation, and Russian students study at Belarusian universities.
Through joint, targeted efforts, we will be able to ensure the competitiveness of national economies, sustainable growth of regions, strengthen defense capabilities, and guarantee a dignified future for fraternal peoples.
I wish the residents of the region, Russian friends and partners success in their creative work, health, happiness, and well-being! May the boldest plans be realized, and may peace and harmony reign in our common Belarusian-Russian home!
