A festive reception at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee gathered 20 veterans of the Great Patriotic War
The restoration of the names of the fallen liberators of the Vitebsk region has been and remains an important task for the authorities, a duty of every citizen to the generation of victors, noted today the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev at a solemn reception for WWII veterans.
"I won't hide that there is a feeling of bitterness in my soul because there are fewer and fewer of you," Nikolai Sherstnev admitted. - Five people have left us since last year's meeting. But the significance of the Victory does not diminish with each passing year. You remain an example for modern youth, you see how great their patriotism is. How sensitively and sincerely the younger generation reacts to the events of May 9. Your deeds, lives, and health, laid on the altar of Victory, are still as valuable. We live under a peaceful sky, our children have not seen war, and, let us hope, thanks to our joint efforts, our grandchildren will also not face the tragedy that befell you."
