The celebration began with a procession of a multi-thousand column in the city center. How is May 9th celebrated in Vitebsk?
In Vitebsk, the celebrations began with a "March of Generations" from Lenin Square to Victory Square. The event was attended by heads of the region and the city, representatives of veteran organizations, work collectives, educational institutions, and the public.
The festive procession was led by a flag-bearing group. Servicemen of the 103rd Vitebsk Separate Guards Airborne Brigade carried the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus, a replica of the Victory Banner, flags of the Vitebsk region and the city of Vitebsk, and standards of the 2nd and 3rd Belarusian Fronts, and the 1st Baltic Front – those who took a direct part in the liberation of the Vitebsk region. They were followed by activists of the BRSM with a banner "Belarus Remembers!", and cadets carried portraits of the liberator soldiers. The procession was accompanied by drummers and a military brass band.
As the column passed by the Resurrection and Holy Protection Churches, the sound of bells could be heard.
For the first time in several years, a military parade was held, featuring ten formations from military units, security forces, law enforcement agencies, and the Vitebsk Cadet School. A total of 360 people and 23 units of equipment, including six vintage vehicles, participated in the parade.
