The festival "Cranes and Cranberries of the Miory Region" will be held on September 29
The festival "Cranes and Cranberries of the Miory Region" will be held in Miory (Vitebsk region) on the last Sunday of September. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Miory District Executive Committee.
The main festive venue will be the recreation area "Poluostrov" (Peninsula). Creative teams from the Miory district will perform here from early morning, a homestead competition and a contest among schoolgirls "Miory Cranberry" will be held, a photo exhibition and a master class on making birds from wool will be organized. Festival participants will be able to taste cranberry pies and try traditional berry juice. A sale of medicinal berries will also be organized here.
Every hour, an excursion bus will depart from the peninsula with those wishing to observe migratory birds - cranes and wild geese. During their migration from Russia and Scandinavia to warm countries, the birds stop at the Yelnya raised bog. At this time, up to several thousand birds gather in the Miory district, spending the night in the bog and feeding in the surrounding fields during the day. Special observation points for birds will be organized here. Ornithologists will accompany tourists during the excursion.
The republican hydrological reserve "Yelnya" was established in 1968. In 1981, the boundaries of the reserve were expanded. It is located within the Miory and Sharkovshchyna districts of the Vitebsk region. "Yelnya" is a unique bog massif with a complex of rare and endangered species of plants and animals, and it plays an important role in preserving the landscape and biological diversity of the Republic of Belarus and Europe as a whole. Since 2002, the "Yelnya" reserve has had the status of a wetland of international importance.
