Enterprises of the Postavy district and the Jõhvi municipality of Estonia will establish direct economic ties

March 30, Minsk /BELTA/. The Postavy district (Vitebsk region) and the Jõhvi municipality of Estonia have signed a cooperation agreement. The document provides for the establishment of direct economic ties between enterprises, the exchange of experience on issues of landscaping, the work of utility services, as well as interaction in the fields of culture, education, and youth exchanges. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Consul General of Belarus in Tallinn, Alexander Ostrovsky. The signing of the document took place during a visit to the Estonian city of Jõhvi by a delegation from the Postavy district. The delegation familiarized itself with the infrastructure and the work of the main services of the municipal administration, visited enterprises, cultural institutions, and sports facilities. This is the fifth cooperation agreement concluded between the regions of Belarus and Estonia in the last three years. Interregional cooperation is an important component of Belarusian-Estonian interaction. As the Deputy Chairman of the Postavy District Executive Committee, Nikolai Koval, told a BELTA correspondent, the signed agreement will give an impetus to the development of bilateral relations between the regions, will promote closer cooperation in all areas, the establishment of new business contacts, and will help find partners for creating joint businesses or implementing investment projects in the district. According to Nikolai Koval, the Postavy district has already concluded similar agreements with cities in Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Italy, the Moscow region, and the Kursk region. In 2008, the foreign trade turnover of the Postavy district amounted to almost $35 million. The volume of exports during this period increased by 32.7% compared to 2007 to $21.7 million, and imports increased 3.3 times to $13.1 million. -0-
