Enterprises of the housing and communal services system of the Vitebsk region allocated over Br9 billion for the organization of a barrier-free environment for people with disabilities in the first half of the year, the committee for labor, employment and social protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. The funds were used for the reconstruction and repair of improved coatings of residential courtyards with the creation of recreation areas for physically disabled persons, equipping entrances with ramps and handrails, contrasting coloring of the first and last steps of staircases in residential buildings, as well as for the creation of artificial speed bumps on the roadway. In Polotsk, Novopolotsk, Vitebsk, Orsha and Novolukoml, the experience of OJSC "Liftservice" in receiving SMS messages from hearing-impaired individuals to the mobile phone of the elevator emergency service has been adopted. The work was carried out under the state program for the development of the housing and communal services system for 2005-2010 and the regional program "Barrier-free environment for the life of physically disabled persons for 2007-2010". In total, in the first half of the year, Br244 million was allocated from all sources of funding for the organization of a barrier-free environment in the Vitebsk region. -0-
