Pre-project preparation for the creation of the Marc Chagall quarter in Vitebsk has been completed
March 19, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Pre-project preparation for the creation of the Marc Chagall quarter in Vitebsk has been completed, Honored Architect of Belarus Leonid Levin told a BELTA correspondent.
The attention of the famous architect and his creative group was drawn to the historical part of Vitebsk - Pokrovskaya Street and its surroundings. This place is famous for being the birthplace of Marc Chagall, and a museum has been created in the artist's paternal home, which has survived to this day.
According to Leonid Levin's idea, this part of the city with a total area of 50 hectares should remind of the life and work of the great master, develop the ideas of avant-garde art and become a tourist highlight of Chagall's homeland. "The whole world makes money on Chagall's name, except for Vitebsk," the interlocutor stated with bitterness.
The architect proposes three phases for the project implementation. The first stage provides for the restoration of Pokrovskaya Street in the spirit of the early 20th century. Souvenir shops and a small hotel will appear next to the Chagall House-Museum. After the implementation of the second and third phases, shops, cafes, a center for contemporary art with an exhibition hall and an art school should operate in the quarter. According to preliminary estimates, the total cost of the project will be about $200 million.
The project is presented at the international investment forum "Investment Initiatives of the Vitebsk Region". Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets, while familiarizing himself with this proposal, expressed interest in its prompt implementation. -0-
