This year, the main Christmas liturgy was held not in the main church of the region – the Church of Jesus the Merciful, but in Polotsk.
— This is timed to coincide with the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing, the translation of the Holy Scripture into the Belarusian language by Francysk Skaryna, — said Oleg Butkevich. — Therefore, the live broadcast of the service was held from ancient Polotsk, where the first printer was born.
The head of the diocese thanked Vladimir Terentyev for his attention and emphasized that the church and local authorities are in close cooperation in the region.
— Catholicism is a traditional religion and is one of the main ones in the Vitebsk region, — said Vladimir Vladimirovich. — Therefore, by good tradition, we come to your church on Christmas and Easter to congratulate you on the holiday.
