Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev and Minister of Energy Viktor Karankevich visited the Baran mini-CHP plant in the Orsha district
On the eve of a thorough discussion at the district executive committee, the head of the ministry and the head of the region visited the Baran mini-CHP plant, a branch of the Belarusian State District Power Station of RUP Vitebskenergo. In 2013, modernization was carried out here, and since then, Baran has had complete energy independence from natural gas. Instead, the power plant uses wood chips and milled peat (raw materials are mined in the Tolochin district). The installed thermal capacity of the mini-CHP plant is 44.7 Gcal/h.
– The Baran mini-CHP plant has shown a good example of thermal autonomy for a single city, – noted Nikolai Sherstnev. – This practice needs to be implemented further. The Vitebsk region is the only one that uses more than 70% of local fuels in the total fuel balance. And this is not the limit. In the coming years, this figure needs to be increased to 75-80%. Today, our task is to find economically justified solutions.
