Председатель Витебского облисполкома Николай Шерстнёв выиграл “бронзу” на Кубке Европы по классическому пауэрлифтингу и жиму штанги лежа

Today, Oshmyany is at the epicenter of a significant event: the European Cup in classic powerlifting and bench press is being held at the sports and recreation complex of the district center.

Oshmyany has rightfully earned the right to host European competitions. For almost two decades, powerlifting has not only been actively developing in our district but also contributes to promoting a healthy lifestyle among the younger generation and serves as a calling card for the region. Athletes trained by the head coach of the Belarusian national powerlifting team, chairman of the Grodno and Grodno region branch of the Public Association "Federation of Classic and Equipped Powerlifting," and chairman of the sports and athletic club "Ajax," Mikhail Stankevich, represent not only their small homeland but also the whole of Belarus at the highest competitions: European and World Championships.

Representatives from nine European countries have arrived in Oshmyany: Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Armenia, Russia, Spain, Ukraine, Georgia, and Belarus. For three days, 55 athletes will compete on the Oshmyany platform.

It is noteworthy that the chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, is competing in the national team of our country. The chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev, and the head of the Department of Sports and Tourism of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Vasily Zakharevich, have arrived to support him.

The first day of the competition has concluded. Awards have found their winners. It is gratifying that at the European level competitions in the Oshmyany physical culture and health complex, the National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus was heard most often during the award ceremony. The spectators were filled with pride for the country, for the athletes who achieve high results, thereby glorifying their region. It was doubly pleasant when athletes from the Oshmyany district ascended the podium.

Our compatriots worthily represented Oshmyanshchyna in the bench press competitions.

In the weight category up to 52 kg among women, Nadezhda Tsereshko took first place. Gold was brought to the Belarusian team by another student of Mikhail Stankevich, Ekaterina Medvedskaya, who

competed in the up to 63 kg weight category. Ilona Antonenko won bronze in this category. Natalia Primachenko from Mozyr added gold to the Belarusian national team's tally in the up to 57 kg weight category. Only in the up to 84 kg category did Gedre Vidžiūnienė from the Republic of Lithuania reach the top step of the podium.

The men's part of the Belarusian team also pleased the spectators with their results. The anthem was played in honor of Alexander Nosov, Andrey Gritsel, Oleg Ermak, and Mikhail Gasyuk. In the up to 83 kg weight category, two Belarusian athletes ascended the podium. Sergey Tsibulsky, a trainee of the Oshmyany powerlifting school, took third place, while Pavel Yasonov brought gold to the team. In the up to 66 kg category, Teymuraz Kalandadze, an athlete from Georgia, won.

The attention of the fans was drawn to the performance of athletes in the up to 105 kg weight category. It was in this category that the Governor of the Vitebsk region, Nikolai Sherstnev, was registered. Nikolai Nikolaevich won a bronze medal, yielding to rivals from Georgia and Armenia.

— I achieved what I set out to do: 170 kg, — noted the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev. – For me, sport is life. I dedicate enough time to it, proving not in word but in deed that a healthy lifestyle is important: it is our longevity. One must not spare oneself, must train, and then the result will definitely come. And it seems to me that we are succeeding in this in the Vitebsk region.
