Sergei Rumas: Polotsk region is an industrial region with potential for further growth
Polotsk District is an industrial region with potential for further growth. This opinion was expressed by the Prime Minister of Belarus, Sergei Rumas, during a meeting of the Polotsk District Executive Committee.
Polotsk is among the 11 cities with a population of over 80,000 people. There is a separate directive from the Head of State regarding these cities, announced in April, that the state should give priority attention to such cities and provide an additional impetus to their development. "There is already an action plan for the development of medium-sized cities, and a meeting with the President on the development of these administrative-territorial units will be held soon. Three of them are located in the Vitebsk region - Orsha, Polotsk, and Novopolotsk," said the head of government.
The Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee approved a comprehensive plan for the accelerated development of Polotsk District for 2019-2020. It includes 18 sections containing 248 measures. In January-September of this year, Br120.2 million was spent on their partial implementation. The Prime Minister urged all regional leaders to successfully implement this program.
"In Polotsk District, the registered unemployment rate, unfortunately, is higher than the national and regional averages. At the same time, there are positive examples of creating new industries and jobs in the region. Among them are Polotsk-Glass Fiber Open Joint Stock Company, Kimabel LLC, and Novopolotsk Plant of Technological Metal Structures Closed Joint Stock Company," said Sergei Rumas.
During a working trip with the management of the Novopolotsk Plant of Technological Metal Structures, he discussed systemic measures that need to be taken to attract investors and create new production facilities. "Polotsk District has sufficient necessary areas. It is a good industrial region with potential for further growth," added the Prime Minister.

Sergei Rumas also drew the attention of the heads of all organizations in the district to the need to reach an average monthly salary of at least Br500 by the end of the year. Currently, seven enterprises in the region pay below this indicator. The head of government also focused the attention of the local authorities on the need to constantly maintain roads in good condition. This issue is relevant for local residents and is regularly raised in citizens' appeals.
