Prime Minister of Belarus Sergey Rumas familiarized himself with the progress of the construction of a rolling mill in the Miory district
The Prime Minister visited the main workshop of the plant, where the main technological equipment is located, comprehensively assessed the technologies that will be used at the plant, and also held a meeting with the main participants of the investment project on the enterprise's marketing strategy. The reasons for the delays in the project implementation, including those related to difficulties in the financing scheme, and options for their resolution were also discussed.
According to Petr Shimukovich, the main issues hindering the implementation of the investment project have now been resolved. "At the moment, we still have a number of facilities in varying degrees of readiness, without which the project cannot be implemented. However, the construction part of the project will be completed in the near future. Work related to commissioning operations for all technological units will remain," he stated.
Petr Shimukovich emphasized that since mid-January, the cold rolling mills at the plant have been switched to pre-commissioning mode. Over the past month and a half, all operations stipulated by the equipment supplier have been performed. No major deficiencies have been identified. All other work is currently being carried out intensively. The general contractor and subcontractors are focused on reducing their timelines.
"The plant construction has been underway for over three years. Due to funding pauses, we are falling behind the planned schedule by six months," noted Alexey Kovalyonok, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MMPZ-Group LLC. He highlighted the chain of projects associated with the creation of a new powerful production facility in the area. Thus, for the near future, the construction of comfortable service housing for plant employees (which will be provided free of charge and become the property of the employee after 10 years of service), a kindergarten, a school, a large multifunctional center, and a high-tech medical center are planned here. The latter project is being implemented through a public-private partnership.
The investment project for the construction of a rolling mill is being implemented in accordance with the State Program for Innovative Development of Belarus for 2016-2020 and Decree No. 271 of June 9, 2014. The investment volume is almost 400 million euros. The main investor is the Austrian company MM PZ GmbH. The innovativeness of the project lies in the creation of production of a product that is fundamentally new for Belarus, the CIS countries and the near abroad - tinplate with a thickness of 0.1 mm (in the CIS, production is up to 0.18 mm thick). The project is export-oriented: in addition to meeting the needs of the domestic market of Belarus, the main part of the products will be exported. In the export structure, about 20% of supplies are planned to be delivered to Russia, while the main share will fall on the markets of other countries.
