The President approved the appointment of Vadim Zaryankin as Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee and Valentina Bogatyreva as Rector of VSU named after P.M. Masherov
"Vitebsk is a beautiful, good, convenient, but not simple city. And not only because the international competition is held there, but because it is, one might say, a purely Slavic city. There are no other cities in the world like Vitebsk. An exemplary Slavic city where representatives of all nationalities have found their place - from Jews to Russians, not to mention Belarusians. Therefore, this city should remain a stronghold of this tolerance and the ability to build life with all groups of different nationalities," Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
According to the head of state, it is an honor to work in the leadership of this city, although it is not easy. "I expect (and much has already been done there) that we will not stop this process, and Vitebsk will become even more beautiful," the President said. - What I like about Vitebsk is that it is a hilly city. This is much more convenient for utility workers than in Minsk. Especially when it rains, and there are plenty of rains there, and moisture too. And in general, I love cities located on such hills. Therefore, it is a beautiful and convenient city, and I can only wish you success and not to stop. And principledness!"
Also, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko today approved the appointment of Valentina Bogatyreva as rector of the Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov. Until now, she held the position of first vice-rector at this educational institution.
"I am not going to advise you on anything. You are a scientist, and you know my attitude towards scientists: I have immense respect for our scientists," the President stated. "You have a good university. If you have any problematic issues that are at my level, tell me, and we will try to resolve them. Although now the whole country is focused on the Vitebsk region to finally solve those pressing issues that have been arising for years."
Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that the Vitebsk region is a beautiful, but very challenging region. "Therefore, work and build upon what you have," said the head of state.
