Two disabled people died in a fire at a Vitebsk nursing home

On June 9 at 23:07, the operational control center of the Vitebsk Regional Ministry of Emergency Situations received a report from the duty officer of the State Social Service Organization "Vitebsk Boarding School for the Elderly and Disabled" about a "fire on the roof" of the boarding school building in Vitebsk, Frunze Avenue.

On June 9 at 23:07, the operational control center of the Vitebsk Regional Ministry of Emergency Situations received a report from the duty officer of the State Social Service Organization "Vitebsk Boarding School for the Elderly and Disabled" about a "fire on the roof" of the boarding school building in Vitebsk, Frunze Avenue.

Five minutes later, the Ministry of Emergency Situations employees arrived at the scene. Heavy smoke and fire were observed in a room on the second floor of the three-story building of the State Social Service Organization "Vitebsk Boarding School for the Elderly and Disabled" in building "B".

The boarding school building is brick and consists of 4 buildings. In building

"B" there were 86 residents and 5 staff members.

 

Ministry of Emergency Situations employees immediately began rescuing and evacuating people: they opened the elevator doors and carried out a nurse, and also rescued a woman, a second-group disabled person, who lived in one of the rooms. Rescuers evacuated 47 people who were not injured.

During the reconnaissance of the second floor, two deceased individuals were discovered, both disabled persons of the first and third groups due to musculoskeletal disorders.

The rescued women were handed over to medical personnel. After the fire was extinguished, a nurse from the facility approached the doctors and was also taken to the hospital.

The fire was promptly contained and extinguished. Its cause is being determined.
