Winners of international subject olympiads were honored in Vitebsk

Students of the Vitebsk region who took prize-winning places at international subject Olympiads in 2018 were honored at the regional executive committee. The head of the region, Nikolai Sherstnev, presented letters of appreciation from the chairman of the regional executive committee to three young people from Vitebsk and Polotsk and their teachers.

Mark Korneichik, a graduate of Vitebsk Gymnasium No. 1, who was awarded the title "Vitebchanin of the Year – 2018," won a gold medal in informatics at the XIV International Zhautykov Olympiad and took silver at the XXX International Olympiad in Informatics. His mentor is Veronika Laktina, an informatics teacher. The young man is currently continuing his education in Moscow.

Anton Zhiltsov, now a student at Belarusian State University, and formerly a student at Vitebsk Gymnasium No. 2, became interested in geography in childhood. Over time, his passion became so serious that the young man decided to dedicate his life to this science.

The desire to learn more than what is written in school textbooks, as well as the ability to think and compare facts, helped him to take an honorable second place at the XV International Geography Olympiad held in Canada.

Anton is not the only winner of international Olympiads for geography teacher Sergei Krivenko, so it is not surprising that he noticed and nurtured the young man's talent in time.

Matvey Novitsky, a future chemist and a student at Belarusian State University, received solid knowledge in his favorite subject at Polotsk Secondary School No. 16 from teacher Svetlana Dyshkant. The young man is a regular participant in the Olympiad movement, conquering the peaks of competitions for the title of the most knowledgeable since 2011. Last year, he managed to climb the podium of the 52nd International Mendeleev Olympiad for School Students in Chemistry and bring back a III degree diploma.

– These victories are your foundation, – Nikolai Sherstnev addressed the young people after the award ceremony. – But this is only the first step on the path to becoming and self-realization in life. And this is honorable not only for you, it is the prestige of your schools, your teachers, our country. You still have everything ahead of you, so dare and go firmly towards your goal, despite any obstacles. And we will support you in every way.
