The rectangular coin "I. Repin" has been added to the Repin collection of the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore

August 4, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A silver commemorative coin of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus "I. Repin" has been added to the Repin collection of the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, Deputy Director of the museum Valery Shishanov told a BELTA correspondent. This is a doubly valuable acquisition for the Vitebsk museum staff. The coin is dedicated to an artist whose work is associated with the Vitebsk region, among other places, and the coin also features the estate of Ilya Repin in Zdravnevo, which is now a branch of the regional museum of local lore. "Not every museum is honored to be depicted on a state coin," emphasized Valery Shishanov. The silver commemorative coin "I. Repin" was issued by the National Bank as part of the international coin program "Artists of the World." Its face value is Br20, alloy fineness is 925, and weight is 28.28 g. Like all coins in this series, it has a rectangular shape measuring 40.00 by 28.00 mm. Both the obverse and reverse sides of the coin have a raised rim along the perimeter of the rectangle. The obverse of the coin features: in the center - a fragment of the painting "Autumn Bouquet" by the Russian artist Ilya Repin; in the upper left corner - a relief image of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus, surrounded by the inscription: РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ, in the lower part - the face value: 20 РУБЛЁЎ, the alloy fineness, and the mint mark of the Polish Mint. The reverse side features: on the left - a relief image of the self-portrait of Ilya Repin, below it the inscription: І.РЭПІН and the artist's years of life 1844-1930; on the right - an image of the Ilya Repin Museum-Estate in Zdravnevo (Belarus, Vitebsk Region), below it - an image of a palette and brushes. The painting "Autumn Bouquet," minted on the obverse, was chosen not by chance: it was painted in Zdravnevo, Valery Shishanov clarified. In honor of the 165th anniversary of Ilya Repin's birth, which is celebrated on August 5, an exhibition of his works – watercolors and graphics from the museum's collections – has opened at the art museum, a branch of the museum of local lore. Two commemorative coins will also be put on display starting today. As part of the international program "Artists of the World," commemorative silver coins have been issued by Armenia, Andorra, Poland, and even exotic countries like Niue and the Cook Islands. France has issued the most coins in this series – five, not only in silver but also in gold. It dedicated them to Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, and Claude Monet. The complete collection for numismatists should also include Ivan Aivazovsky, Vincent van Gogh, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Leonardo da Vinci, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Aleksander Gierymski, Leon Wyczółkowski, and Jan Vermeer. -0-
