Experts will discuss problems of infections in obstetrics and gynecology at a conference in Vitebsk

September 13, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Scientists and specialists will discuss problems of infections in obstetrics and gynecology at an international conference in Vitebsk on October 21-22, Professor Sergey Zanko, head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Vitebsk State Medical University, told a BELTA correspondent. About 250 leading specialists from Russia, Poland, Ukraine, and all regions of Belarus will gather in Vitebsk. The relevance of the conference's topic is due to the fact that today infection is no longer a problem of the parents' illness; it affects the fetus in utero during pregnancy. The baby is born infected, so pediatricians and therapists have to treat him as a carrier of a chronic infection. "The main task of the conference is to discuss unified approaches of the professional community to the problem, and the possibilities of medicine to reduce and prevent intrauterine infection of the fetus," noted Sergey Zanko. In addition, the forum participants will consider new Belarusian standards of treatment in obstetrics and gynecology, which are planned to be adopted in the near future. All leading medical and scientific institutions of the country will be represented at the conference, which will allow for the development of specific proposals for possible adjustments to the documents. Based on the results of the forum, the agreed proposals will be sent to the Ministry of Health for approval. This will allow all the latest developments of domestic specialists to be taken into account in departmental regulatory documents. Thus, for the four years following their approval, the country's obstetric and gynecological service will operate according to documents that have actually become the result of the Vitebsk forum's work, said Sergey Zanko. During the event, specialists will pay tribute to Professor Nikolai Lyzikov, who would have turned 90 this year. "He was a significant figure in the medicine of the former Soviet Union; he trained practically all obstetricians and gynecologists in the Vitebsk region, so we decided to dedicate the conference to the memory of this remarkable person and specialist," the interlocutor added. -0-
