The 'Together Against Childhood Injuries' project is launching in the Vitebsk region

This was announced at an expanded meeting of the presidium of the Vitebsk regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society on the results of last year's activities and plans for 2017.

According to its chairman, Galina Zhelanova, a deputy of the regional council of deputies, the new initiative will complement the 18 programs and projects of various social orientations that were successfully implemented during the past year. It will be launched within the framework of the international technical assistance project "Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases, Promotion of a Healthy Lifestyle and Support for the Modernization of the Healthcare System in the Republic of Belarus" (Belmed), for which the EU allocates 60 thousand euros.

Together with partners – the regional children's clinical center and the regional center for psychiatry and narcology – the Red Cross organization will work intensively for 18 months to prevent childhood injuries among families in risk groups living in the northern capital and the Vitebsk region.

Moreover, it is planned to train not only schoolchildren but also their parents in new approaches to creating a safe environment for children and building intergenerational relationships, so that children are not left unattended, as minors often get injured due to adult negligence.

The issue of childhood injuries is very relevant, as confirmed by medical statistics: over the past year, about 14,000 patients passed through the emergency room of the children's hospital, and almost 11,000 through the surgical department.

In March, the first training sessions for specialists will start, after which children and their families will be involved.
