Energy and mechanical engineering projects are promising for Vitebsk and Czech businesses

As noted by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Milan Hovorka, trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and the Czech Republic is developing dynamically, reaching its peak in 2008, when the trade turnover between the countries exceeded $400 million. At the same time, there is significant potential for expanding and deepening mutual relations through the development of contacts between the regions of the two countries. It is for this reason that for the first time a Czech delegation, which included representatives of major enterprises, is making a visit to one of the regions of Belarus today. Vitebsk region was not chosen by chance. "This is one of the largest industrial regions of Belarus, some Czech companies are already present here," said Milan Hovorka. "And we are interested in cooperation in the creation of hydroelectric power stations, the development of urban transport, in the field of mechanical engineering, and other sectors."

December 1, Vitebsk /Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. Joint projects in the chemical industry, energy, mechanical engineering, and urban transport development can become promising areas of cooperation for Vitebsk and Czech businessmen. This was announced today to journalists, in response to a question from a BELTA correspondent, by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Milan Hovorka. He heads the delegation of Czech business circles during a one-day visit to Vitebsk, reports a BELTA correspondent.

According to the Czech Deputy Minister, trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and the Czech Republic is developing dynamically, reaching its peak in 2008 when the trade turnover between the countries exceeded $400 million. At the same time, there is significant potential for expanding and deepening mutual relations through the development of contacts between the regions of the two countries. It is for this reason that for the first time, a Czech delegation, including representatives of major enterprises, is visiting one of the regions of Belarus today. The Vitebsk region was not chosen by chance. "This is one of the largest industrial regions in Belarus, and some Czech companies are already present here," said Milan Hovorka. "And we are interested in cooperation in the creation of hydroelectric power plants, the development of urban transport, in the field of mechanical engineering, and other sectors."

In this situation, the main task of the leadership of the two countries is to create favorable conditions for the development of joint activities of Belarusian and Czech businessmen, the Deputy Minister believes. The signed intergovernmental agreement on economic cooperation will contribute to this to a considerable extent. The first meeting of the intergovernmental commission was held in April this year in Brno, and the second meeting, by mutual agreement, will be held in Belarus.

The Czech delegation took part in a business meeting with representatives of the business community of the Vitebsk region. During the event, presentations of the Vitebsk region, investment opportunities of the FEZ "Vitebsk", as well as the tourism potential of the northwestern region of Belarus were held. The delegation of the Czech Republic included heads of banking and insurance structures, enterprises specializing in the energy, construction, and chemical sectors.-0-
