Trade unions of the Vitebsk region provided assistance to families in preparing for school for almost Br95 thousand.
On preparation for school for vulnerable families, trade unions of the Vitebsk region have allocated about Br95 thousand; assistance to citizens will be provided until the end of the month and at the very beginning of the academic year. This was reported to a correspondent by the press service of the Vitebsk Regional Trade Union Association.
The peak of active assistance to large, low-income, single-parent, and foster families, children of obligated persons, and families raising children with disabilities will be on September 1. However, many residents of the region have already received support from trade unions within the framework of the ongoing "Trade Unions - for Children" campaign. "We started the 'Let's Pack a Schoolbag' events in August. For the new academic year, school supplies, stationery, textbooks, clothing, and footwear are purchased from trade union funds. Schools for children with disabilities and children's social shelters under patronage will also receive financial assistance. Special attention is paid to first-graders," the press service noted.
Every year, Vitebsk regional committees of the trade union of healthcare workers, state and other institution workers, agricultural workers, and the regional council of the banking and financial trade union take an active part in preparing children for the new academic year.
The Vitebsk regional organization of the trade union of healthcare workers has provided assistance to more than 530 families in the amount of about Br24 thousand. For example, at the Polotsk Central City Hospital, financial assistance equal to 3 basic units (1 BU - Br29) is paid to mothers with many children for each child to prepare them for school. Additionally, financial assistance is provided to large families and single parents from the trade union budget for each student. This healthcare institution has a tradition of visiting large families with five or more children on the eve of September 1, to whom school kits are presented. The trade union committee also purchased 250 tickets for the "Gomel Water Circus" performance, which delighted children last weekend.
JSC "Road Construction Trust No. 1, Vitebsk" allocated Br150 per child to its employees for school preparation: a total of 240 children received financial assistance. The regional committee of the Belarusian Trade Union of Chemical, Petrochemical and Related Industries also organized an event to assist in preparing children for the new academic year: Br2 thousand were transferred from trade union budget funds for 70 pupils of social-pedagogical centers in Polotsk and Novopolotsk, including Br200 from the regional committee of the Belarusian Trade Union of Chemical, Petrochemical and Related Industries to strengthen the material and technical base.
Last year, material assistance from the trade unions of the Vitebsk region to parents before the academic year amounted to about Br610 thousand.
