A program for the material and technical support of sports institutions will be developed in the Vitebsk region
August 23, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A program for the material and technical support of sports institutions for the period 2012-2015 will be developed in the Vitebsk region. The decision was made today at a regular session of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies, according to a BELTA correspondent.
The development of high-performance sports is impossible without the development of mass physical culture, emphasized the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets, who took part in the session. According to the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the provision of sports equipment in general education schools is 61.2%, and in vocational schools - 55.3%. The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee considers this state of affairs unacceptable: "Within one year, all educational institutions must be fully equipped with sports equipment. District and city authorities are capable of doing this by allocating the necessary expenses in the budget for next year," the governor stressed.
In his opinion, not only budget funds, but also sponsorship funds should be attracted to finance the program. A positive example is one of the private enterprises in Postavy, which built a football field that meets all requirements at its own expense. "We need to involve private business in the construction of such facilities, the restoration of sports camps, and recreational areas in courtyards," Alexander Kosinets is convinced.
One of the most pressing issues in the training of sports reserves and high-class athletes in the region is the lack of modern sports facilities, noted the head of the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Mikhail Portnoy. There is an urgent need to build a 50-meter swimming pool, a modern athletics arena, a game hall, a rowing base, a second ice rink with artificial ice, a speed skating track, and a dormitory for young families for talented athletes and coaches in Vitebsk, a second ice rink with artificial ice in Novopolotsk, and ski tracks in Gorodok and Shumilino, the head of the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Mikhail Portnoy, informed the deputies. The construction of a sports complex with a weightlifting hall at the Vitebsk State College of Olympic Reserve, a four-hall sports complex in Vitebsk, and a ski track at the Novopolotsk State College of Olympic Reserve must be completed as soon as possible. It is also necessary to reconstruct the ski tracks and shooting ranges at the Vitebsk State College of Olympic Reserve, in Senno, and the sports complex in Orsha.
The total number of people engaged in physical culture and sports is 210,882 people, which is 17.3% of the total population of the region. Sports reserve training is carried out by 58 sports schools, 2 colleges of the Olympic Reserve, 2 centers of the Olympic Reserve, and the regional school of higher sportsmanship. 551 athletes are included in the national and сборные teams of the Republic of Belarus in 38 sports. -0-
