Program of the XXXII International Festival of Modern Choreography "IFMC-2019" in Vitebsk
Lovers of classics in a modern interpretation will appreciate the choreographic performance "Anna Karenina" by the Evgeny Vakhtangov State Academic Theatre. A bit of Gogol's mysticism will be brought to the stage of the "Vitebsk" Concert Hall by a troupe from Kyiv. They will tell the audience one of the writer's scariest stories in a ballet based on the novella "Viy".
Do you want to decipher symbols and discuss metaphors? Then take a closer look at the productions "Labyrinth" and "Man of Air" by the Evgeny Panfilov Theatre. And if you have long dreamed of seeing choreographic eclecticism – then the performance "OSKARA" by a troupe from Spain is for you.
The Vitebsk Regional Philharmonic has also prepared a surprise. The Belgian-Dutch dance project "Sweat baby sweat" will be presented there. Elements of Butoh, yoga, and acrobatics in the context of one love story.

Choreographic performance "ANNA KARENINA" based on the novel by Leo TOLSTOY.
Music: Alfred SCHNITTKE.
Choreography: Angelica KHOLINA.
Evgeny VAKHTANGOV State Academic Theatre, Russia.
Angelica KHOLINA, director: "I am looking for an equivalent of the harmony of word and meaning in plastic. After all, every movement holds a meaning adequate to the word. For me, the moral of the novel is that a woman should not be an object of satisfaction for male self-esteem. We think we all know what love is, but when this feeling comes, we face our own egoism, which destroys everything."

The performance is a fusion of two choreographic universes and two perspectives on dance, combining popular roots and a more avant-garde expression. "OSKARA" is an installation work that examines certain aspects of Basque culture and myths from their origins to the present day; a capture of the plastic, emotional path of symbols and iconography with the ambiguous and disconcerting power that, in the most absolute sense, human experience holds.
Ticket price: 18-30 rubles
