The prosecutor's office notes the low level of crime prevention in vocational and technical colleges in the Vitebsk region
April 19, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A low level of crime prevention and neglect is noted among students in vocational education institutions of the Vitebsk region, Irina Yanukovich, Senior Assistant Prosecutor of the Vitebsk Region for Supervision of the Enforcement of Legislation on Minors and Youth, told a BELTA correspondent.
A prosecutor's inspection of vocational schools, secondary specialized educational institutions, and evening schools in the region covered 23 educational institutions. One of the reasons for its conduct was the increase in crime among students of these educational institutions. Thus, in 2010, it increased by 14.3% to 196 cases, while the overall trend was a decrease in unlawful acts among adolescents. In the first quarter of this year, 38 crimes have already been registered. Facts of serial thefts, car thefts, and robberies committed by vocational school students who have the status of orphans and live in dormitories of educational institutions also draw attention.
Work on crime prevention in the region's vocational education institutions is established, but it is ineffective due to organizational shortcomings and the low activity of prevention councils in conducting individual work with students prone to antisocial behavior, noted Irina Yanukovich. Cases of a formal attitude towards working with adolescents are often noted; facts of alcohol consumption, antisocial behavior, family situations, and suicidal behavior remain unnoticed by teachers.
A summary of the inspection results with proposals for improving the work has been sent to the education department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. -0-
