The Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office filed over 300 lawsuits with the economic courts of the republic last year to protect the economic interests of economic entities, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Olga Lapkovskaya, Deputy Head of the Department for Supervision of Legislation Enforcement and Legality of Legal Acts of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.

In total, in 2012, prosecutors supervising legislation enforcement in the Vitebsk region filed 311 lawsuits and applications for the initiation of summary proceedings with the economic courts of the republic for a total amount exceeding Br39.5 billion, $72.3 thousand, and 4.6 million Russian rubles.

The largest number of appeals for judicial protection was carried out in defense of the interests of state-owned economic entities – 69 lawsuits and 65 applications in summary proceedings for a total amount exceeding Br19 billion. In the interests of organizations in the agro-industrial complex, 22 lawsuits were filed, with the amount of claims totaling Br6.3 billion.

"In addition, prosecutors provide assistance to enterprises of non-state ownership. Last year, 23 lawsuits were filed in their favor for a total amount of about Br2.1 billion," noted Olga Lapkovskaya, adding that, as a rule, joint-stock companies with a predominant state ownership share in their charter capital usually turn to the prosecutor's office for the protection of violated property rights.

The prosecutors of Oktyabrsky and Zheleznodorozhny districts of Vitebsk, Orsha, and Vitebsk district were most active in protecting the interests of economic entities by applying to the Economic Court.

The purposeful work to protect the interests of the state and organizations by filing lawsuits and applications with the economic courts of the republic will be continued by the prosecutor's bodies in the future, emphasized Olga Lapkovskaya.
