Vitebsk's industry has increased its production volume by 1.4 times in five years

Vitebsk's industry has increased its production volume by 1.4 times in five years. This was announced by the city mayor, Viktor Nikolaykin, before a meeting with delegates of the upcoming All-Belarusian People's Assembly from Vitebsk.

"As a delegate of the assembly and as the head of the city executive committee, I am primarily aware of the work done in the past five-year period. And I think every delegate and manager needs to do this: summarize the results, analyze mistakes, what worked and what didn't, and build further development on this basis. Let me give a few figures: industrial production in the city has grown by 1.4 times in terms of the physical volume index, i.e., in real terms, over five years. And this is against the backdrop of the disappearance of some industrial flagships of the Soviet era. Now, enterprises that have timely modernized, reduced energy costs, and introduced a flexible production organization system are promising. Others should emulate them," noted Viktor Nikolaykin.

Among the achievements of the five-year period for the city as a whole, the mayor also noted the results of housing construction. About 800 thousand square meters of housing have been built in multi-story buildings alone, not counting individual cottages. This is almost a new microdistrict. "That is, the city is developing, growing - we are already over 377 thousand, 20 thousand more than in 2010. And the increase in retail space during this time is double. But there are also problems: the infrastructure of new microdistricts is lagging, particularly in Bilevo and Medtsentr, where there is a shortage of kindergartens, schools, and clinics. In the private sector, where people acquire land and build housing, the necessary infrastructure has not yet been established everywhere. These are the tasks that need to be addressed," added the mayor. Today, a meeting of the leadership of the regional center, the deputy corps, with delegates of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly took place at the Vitebsk City Executive Committee. According to Viktor Nikolaykin, such communication is necessary for several reasons. On the one hand, it is necessary to inform the delegates about the results of the five-year period so that they are aware of the general situation, not only in their own field. On the other hand, to listen to their assessment of the city authorities' approaches to the city's development: what tasks need to be addressed as a priority.

"The people themselves, representatives of work collectives, will help us choose the right path. We can get scattered - take on many projects, for the completion of which we will then lack funds. Or we can concentrate our attention on the most important things. And the delegates of the meeting will help us choose such priority projects," concluded Viktor Nikolaikin.
