The investigation into the death of a one-year-old Russian citizen at a hotel in Vitebsk is ongoing
An investigation into the death of a one-year-old Russian citizen at a hotel in Vitebsk is still ongoing. This was announced today at a press conference by Vladimir Shalukhin, Head of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Vitebsk Region, according to a BELTA correspondent.
The investigation is being conducted by the Zheleznodorozhny (Vitebsk city) District Department of the Investigative Committee of Belarus. The investigation has no grounds to suggest that a murder occurred. Vladimir Shalukhin cited mechanical asphyxiation by food remnants as the probable cause of the baby's death.
As previously reported, late in the evening on January 9, while returning from Europe to Moscow, a couple, citizens of the Russian Federation born in 1983 and 1984, along with their children aged one and six, checked into a double room at a hotel in Vitebsk. On January 10, around eight o'clock in the morning, the parents discovered the body of the younger child. With the assistance of hotel staff, an ambulance team was called, which pronounced the child dead. An investigative task force, including employees of the Zheleznodorozhny District Department of the Investigative Committee of Belarus and the Zheleznodorozhny District Department of Internal Affairs, a medical examiner, and a forensic expert, arrived at the scene. Witnesses to the incident were interviewed, and forensic examinations were promptly ordered, which will allow for a final conclusion on the cause of the child's death.
