The Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection informs about the republican competition for the best motor transport organization in reducing atmospheric air pollution for 2012.

The Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection informs about the republican competition for the best motor transport organization in reducing atmospheric air pollution for 2012.

Currently, exhaust gas emissions from vehicles amount to 117 thousand tons, or 53% of the total emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air of the Vitebsk region. The toxic impact of motor transport emissions is exacerbated by the fact that these pollution sources are at the human breathing level. Reducing the impact of motor transport emissions is a state task.

In order to further stimulate the creative initiative of employees of motor transport organizations in fulfilling the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Belarus of April 15, 1997 "On Protection of Atmospheric Air", an annual republican competition (hereinafter - the competition) for the best motor transport organization in reducing atmospheric air pollution has been held since 2005.

The competition for the best motor transport organization in reducing atmospheric air pollution is held with the aim of reducing the harmful impact of exhaust gas emissions from vehicle engines on the environment and human health, and mobilizing the creative initiative of employees of motor transport organizations of the republic to reduce emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air.

Motor transport organizations that manage 50 or more vehicles (hereinafter - the list of vehicles) and have an officially established post for controlling the toxicity and (or) smoke of vehicle engine exhaust gases can participate in the competition.

The competition is held in three stages.
The first stage includes the organization and summing up of the competition results at the district level from February 15 to April 1 of the year following the calendar year for which the competition is held.

The second stage is summing up the competition results at the regional level from April 1 to April 30 of the year following the calendar year for which the competition is held.

The third stage is summing up the competition results at the republican level from April 30 to May 25 of the year following the calendar year for which the competition is held.

The organization of the competition is carried out by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus and its territorial bodies.

The largest number of points is awarded to the auto enterprise based on the following performance indicators: renewal of the vehicle fleet, absence of administrative offenses regarding air protection legislation, provision of services to third-party organizations under contracts for monitoring the compliance of exhaust gas toxicity (smoke) of vehicles with established standards.

Based on the results of 2011, eight auto enterprises participated in the auto competition, including OJSC "Motor Transport Enterprise No. 5" of Vitebsk, TUP "Beltekhnoservice" of Novopolotsk, and others. At the regional level, the first place was taken by the branch "Bus Park No. 3 of Orsha".
