The simplified border crossing points 'Vidzy' and 'Moldevichi' in the Vitebsk region will be granted international status

The crime situation in the border areas of the Vitebsk region is quite stable and under control. This was stated by Oleg Matskevich, First Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, at a meeting of the commission under the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee on the implementation of state border policy in the region.

Proper interaction between the territorial bodies of the border service and internal affairs has been ensured. The Internal Affairs Directorate units of the Regional Executive Committee and the Internal Affairs Departments of the border districts are implementing measures to identify persons involved in illegal migration, illegal movement of goods and materials across the state border, and those violating the rules of stay in the border territory.

The Braslav, Verkhnedvinsk, Miory, and Postavy District Departments of Internal Affairs are monitoring the crime situation and exchanging daily reports and operational service activity results.

According to Oleg Matskevich, last year great attention was paid to verifying the legality of stay of foreign citizens attracted by organizations and individual entrepreneurs to economic activities in the border zone.

Thus, in 2018, 110 operations were carried out in settlements located in the border zone. As a result, 122 foreigners were brought to administrative responsibility, and decisions on deportation were made regarding two of them.

In the Vitebsk region, the implementation of an important initiative has begun – changing the status of simplified crossing points "Vidzy" and "Moldevichi" to international ones with the aim of organizing the movement of passenger and empty cargo vehicles through them.

The Regional Executive Committee, together with the Braslav and Postavy District Executive Committees and the Vitebsk Customs, has determined a list of priority measures and estimated costs for their implementation. The information has been sent to the State Customs Committee of Belarus.

– Work was carried out to develop and improve the infrastructure of simplified crossing points, – said Oleg Sergeevich. – Design and estimate documentation for the repair of the "Moldevichi" crossing point was developed, and door and window units, light fixtures, and lamps were replaced at the "Moldevichi" and "Lyntupy" crossing points. The costs for carrying out this work amounted to 18,297.39 rubles.

The Braslav District Executive Committee allocated over 22 thousand rubles for the maintenance of the infrastructure of the "Vidzy" simplified crossing point, as well as for the production and installation of billboards and banners. The Miory District Executive Committee allocated 5 thousand rubles for the renewal of information signs and nameplates.

Enterprises of RUP "Vitebskavtodor" carried out maintenance and current repair work on road sections adjacent to the "Grigorovshchina", "Urbany", "Moldevichi", "Vidzy", "Lyntupy" crossing points, and structural divisions of KUP "Vitebskobldorstroy" carried out maintenance and repair work on sections of local roads providing access to the "Plyusy" and "Gavriliino" simplified crossing points.

Speaking about the tasks for 2019, Oleg Matskevich noted that the Braslav District Executive Committee should intensify work with investors on commissioning the infrastructure of the waiting area for the implementation of an electronic queue system for vehicle entry at the "Urbany" road crossing point. The Braslav, Verkhnedvinsk, and Postavy District Executive Committees need to continue planned work on maintaining and improving the infrastructure of the "Vidzy", "Plyusy", "Gavriliino", "Moldevichi", "Lyntupy" simplified crossing points.

– The current year is a year of significant international sports events in Belarus, and above all, the II European Games, – emphasized Oleg Sergeevich. – Participants and fans of the Games will move through the Vitebsk region from both the west and the east. Based on this, we need to pay attention to the roads, the condition of the crossing points, roadside service facilities, tidying up the border area, and the state of public security in general.

At the same time, Oleg Sergeevich emphasized the importance of fostering an active life stance among the population of the border zone, which should closely cooperate with local authorities and border guards, promptly informing them about the appearance of uninvited guests in the border zone.

The First Deputy Chairman of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus, Major General Igor Butkevich, who took part in the commission meeting, stated a high level of interaction between the authorities, enterprises, and organizations of the Vitebsk region and the border guards. He thanked everyone for their joint work, for understanding the relevance of border issues and the problems that arise in ensuring border security and protecting the state border, and which have to be promptly resolved.
