May 15, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The Night of Museums in the city hall will take Vitebsk residents back to the era of 200 years ago, the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore informed a BELTA correspondent.
Residents and guests of the city will be able to take a fascinating journey to 1812 on May 18. The solemn event will begin with a procession of drummers in the square in front of the town hall to the sounds of a military band, and then continue in the halls of the town hall, where musical, theatrical, and poetic salons will be opened.
Men will be interested in learning about the historical facts of military operations and battles in the Vitebsk region in 1812 at the exhibitions "Military-Historical Miniature" and "Pages of the War of 1812 in the Vitebsk Region," sculpting toy soldiers, participating in a rapier duel, and watching demonstration sports performances. Ladies will have a unique opportunity to create bouquets and brooches from beads, fabric, and paper with their own hands, paint pictures in the style of romanticism, make a wish, or learn their fortune through ancient Pushkin fortune-telling. When all attendees are imbued with the spirit of a bygone era, a ball will begin. The event will conclude with a candlelight procession to the Square of the Heroes of the War of 1812.
The Night of Museums was first organized and held on May 16, 2005, on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. The event is designed to bring historical and cultural heritage closer to the audience, and to show the significance of museums in society's life through an unconventional acquaintance with them. -0-
