Working trip of the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to the Vitebsk region

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko visited the Vitebsk Fur Factory on November 2 during a working trip to the Vitebsk region.

At the enterprise, Alexander Lukashenko was informed about the fulfillment of instructions for the development of the leather and fur industry. Then he visited several workshops, where he familiarized himself with the technological processes of sheepskin and fur dressing, the production of finished goods, and an exhibition of manufactured products.

During his visit to the enterprise, the President stated that the modernization of the Vitebsk Fur Factory is a gift to the people for November 7.

The Head of State explained that he himself, members of the Government, and other high-ranking officials should show people what has been done over the past year – by November 7. According to him, the Vitebsk Fur Factory has become a very solid enterprise after modernization – a gift to the people for the holiday.
Alexander Lukashenko noted that the industry needs giant enterprises, such as, for example, the Svetlogorsk Pulp and Paper Mill, but attention should also be paid to relatively small productions. "We could build enterprises like this for 800 million – calculate how much. And people are employed, and the enterprise is excellent," the Head of State remarked.

About $24 million was invested in the reconstruction of the Vitebsk Fur Factory, and more than 300 jobs were created here. It is planned that when the enterprise reaches full capacity, the number of employees will increase to 500 people. The "Marko" holding company was engaged in the modernization of the factory.
As reported to the Head of State, the enterprise has not yet reached its design capacity. However, as soon as all lines are launched, the indicators will significantly increase. The President expressed a desire to visit the factory by the end of next year. He expects that by this time the enterprise will be working at full capacity.

During his visit, the President tasked the Government leadership with directing a portion of the credit funds allocated to Belarus by China towards supporting private businesses.
"We have a large number of unutilized commercial Chinese loans, seven billion, and there are also cheap ones. Recently, I ordered you to stop focusing only on giants," said Alexander Lukashenko. "There are competent private entrepreneurs whom we know, not just charlatans from the street; they need to be helped. For 20-30 million (dollars. - Ed.), they will create hundreds of thousands of jobs for us."

At the same time, he emphasized, it is not necessary to allocate hundreds of millions or billions of dollars for the construction of new private enterprises.

The Head of State cited the Vitebsk Fur Factory as an example. After the enterprise was acquired by the company "Marko" in 2013, approximately $24 million was invested in its reconstruction and modernization. The factory has already created over 300 jobs, with plans to increase them to 500.
"A wonderful enterprise," the President praised. "If he (CEO of 'Marko' Nikolai Martynov. - Ed.) had not proven himself, I would not have talked to him about the holding company or this. He has proven himself to be a good private entrepreneur, a businessman."
