Since the beginning of the swimming season, OSVOD workers in the Vitebsk region have rescued about 80 people
July 29, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Since the beginning of the swimming season, OSVOD workers in the Vitebsk region have rescued about 80 people, the head of the organization's diving rescue service, Alexander Myasoedov, told a BELTA correspondent.
According to operational data as of July 29, timely assistance saved the lives of 43 adults and 36 children. 247 people received warnings, including 90 children. At the same time, 75 people drowned during this period, including 6 children.
Among the main factors of death on the water among the adult population are swimming after consuming alcoholic beverages (half of all accidents), overestimation of one's own physical strength, and elementary disregard for safety rules: swimming beyond buoys, lack of rescue equipment and vests, diving in unfamiliar places, etc. Hypothermia and cramps also often lead to a tragic outcome.
The head of the diving rescue service considers parental negligence to be the main cause of child drowning. "It is strictly forbidden to let children swim alone. If the family is vacationing together, adults must pay the utmost attention to the safety of children on the water and choose equipped beaches for these purposes, where not only they but also OSVOD rescuers can provide assistance," he emphasized.
There are 19 posts and 10 rescue stations of OSVOD operating in the Vitebsk region, with 120 people on duty - divers, motor operators, medical workers, and rescue swimmers. In total, there are 134 beaches in the region. However, according to the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, most of them were not ready for the beginning of the swimming season. -0-
