Works of the first Vitebsk paparazzi Sigismund Yurkovsky have been published by the regional museum of local lore

March 27, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Works by photographer Sigismund Yurkovsky, the first Vitebsk paparazzi, have been published by the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, the museum informed a BELTA correspondent. To popularize the work of Sigismund Yurkovsky, who went down in the history of photography as the inventor of the curtain-slit shutter (a prototype of modern camera shutters), the museum has published a set of his photographs in postcards. It includes 12 out of the 27 works by the master stored in the museum's collections, which capture the streets, buildings, and panoramas of Vitebsk in the last third of the 19th century. Familiarizing oneself with them is another way to take an exciting tour of the regional center. As noted at the museum, Sigismund Yurkovsky's photo studio was one of the most popular in the city. The first persons of the provincial town, including chief architect Tikhon Kibardin, pharmacist Robert Ulrich, and prominent public figure, one of the founders of the Vitebsk Archival Commission Vladimir Stukalich, turned to him for photographs. However, Yurkovsky himself was not alien to the passion of modern celebrity hunters. For example, the master managed to capture the famous realist painter Ilya Repin in his studio in "Zdravnevo." The uniqueness of one of the two such photographs that have survived to this day lies in the fact that the picture shows not only the artist and his creative laboratory but also the unfinished painting "The Temptation of Christ," which later burned down in Kharkiv. -0-
