Over four "duty" Saturdays, the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's direct line received over 100 appeals, with the majority of answers to the submitted questions being of an explanatory nature. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the head of the department for work with citizens' and legal entities' appeals of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Ilona Shulga.

"Often, people call the direct line looking for some kind of magic, wanting to get the decision they need. Even though many problems have been considered more than once, applicants have received written answers, their situation has been analyzed, and explanations have been given," noted the head of the department and gave an example of an appeal for employment assistance. "Vacancies have been repeatedly offered, but the person is adamant in their decision to be, for example, a metrologist engineer and does not want to work as anyone else. Such a person, apparently, is not very in need of earnings if they reject offered vacancies throughout the year," Ilona Shulga suggested.

The interlocutor provided several more examples of appeals received on the direct line and reviewed by specialists. Thus, a report about a low temperature regime in an apartment was not confirmed - measurements showed that the temperature meets the established requirements. In response to an appeal regarding the repair of a dormitory, it was stated that the work is planned for this year. During the inspection of an appeal regarding the provision of social housing, it was found that the applicant refused the provided premises.

In Belarus, direct telephone hotlines are organized weekly by regional executive committees and the Minsk City Executive Committee this year to enhance the effectiveness of work with citizens' and legal entities' appeals, eradicate bureaucracy and red tape, paper-pushing, and to promptly resolve emerging issues. Such direct telephone hotlines have already been held on January 17, 24, 31, and February 7. This practice of direct communication with residents of the regions on their pressing issues continued on Saturday, February 14. The telephone hotline at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee was conducted by Gennady Grebnev, First Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee.
