More than 1,000 people underwent rehabilitation after COVID-19 at the Yurtsevo hospital
"Yurtsevo" has been rehabilitating people who have recovered from COVID-19 since June 2 last year. In August, medical staff returned to their normal work schedule, but at the end of October, with the arrival of the second wave of the pandemic, they resumed helping people recover their health after the illness.
Today, the hospital admits patients from all over the Vitebsk region who have had moderate to severe coronavirus pneumonia. There are 185 people in the healthcare facility. They undergo a wide range of procedures and medical care. All of this is regulated by the Ministry of Health, utilizing the developments of foreign colleagues and WHO recommendations.
All patients admitted to the hospital are examined by specialists to assess their condition and determine permissible exertion levels. One of the main goals of rehabilitation after pneumonia is to "re-inflate" the lungs. "Breathing exercises and cardiorespiratory exercises play an important role. The basis is a special breathing technique with a prolonged exhalation. Patients engage in this twice a day, and in the summer, they do it in the fresh air. Considerable attention is paid to therapeutic physical exercise, physiotherapy, laser irradiation, electrophoresis, chest massage, and other procedures. Patients are concerned about their health, colleagues, acquaintances, and loved ones, so psychological support is also provided," noted Lyudmila Senkovskaya.
Patients stay at the regional hospital for 14-18 days. Their temperature, saturation, and blood pressure are checked daily.
Recovery after COVID-19 is a lengthy process. Rehabilitation under medical supervision makes it possible to make this process faster and more effective. After discharge, patients are given recommendations on optimal nutrition, physical activity, and further lifestyle.
