The reconstruction of the bridge over the Dnieper River in Orsha will begin in early 2014
Reconstruction of the bridge over the Dnieper in Orsha will begin in early 2014. This was announced today by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, during a personal reception of citizens held jointly with the Prosecutor General of Belarus, Alexander Konyuk, BELTA correspondent reports. BELTA.
The bridge over the Dnieper, about 150 m long, connects the area of the Orsha Flax Combine and several residential microdistricts of the city. Currently, it is in a dilapidated state. For safety reasons, local authorities have closed one of the pedestrian lanes and banned trucks from crossing the bridge. Their movement is now routed via a detour through Shklov. Repair work is hampered by a lack of funding, explained the Chairman of the Orsha District Executive Committee, Nikolai Lisovsky, during the discussion of a collective appeal from citizens on this issue. He also added that to resolve the issue of funding, the district executive committee had already appealed to higher authorities, including the Prime Minister.
As emphasized by Alexander Kosinets, the volume of investment for the reconstruction is Br350-370 billion. In fact, it is about building a new bridge, as the old one has lost its load-bearing capacity over the years of operation and poses a real threat to people's lives. To fully familiarize himself with the situation, the governor personally visited the site and decided to ban all types of transport from crossing this bridge. "Detour traffic will go in the Shklov direction, and the bridge will become pedestrian for a while," emphasized the chairman of the regional executive committee, instructing to install sturdy metal railings for pedestrian safety.
Alexander Kosinets stressed that the funds necessary for repairs will be allocated from the regional budget. The reconstruction is planned to be completed within 2014-2015. Work is scheduled to commence in early next year. "We understand that detouring the bridge will be very inconvenient, and we will make every effort to speed up the work on this facility. But we cannot risk the safety of our people," added the governor.
Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets and Prosecutor General of Belarus Alexander Konyuk held a joint reception of citizens today at the Orsha Flax Mill, which was attended by six employees of the enterprise. People raised personal issues: payments by a guarantor to a commercial bank for a dishonest borrower, transfer of service housing into private ownership, registration of a minor child in a private house received as a gift. The issue of regulating labor relations in connection with the early termination of an employment contract by the employee was touched upon, as well as the activities of the former management of the Orsha Flax Mill's trading house in Moscow. A collective appeal from the female employees of the enterprise, related to the need for reconstruction of the bridge over the Dnieper River, became relevant for a significant part of the population of Orsha. All the issues raised were answered exhaustively by the officials.
