The reconstruction of the international road checkpoint "Grigorovshchina" will be completed in the fourth quarter of the current year, Denis Glebko, assistant head of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment for Media Relations, told a BELTA correspondent.

The "Grigorovshchina" checkpoint is located in the Verkhnedvinsk district on the border with Latvia. Its reconstruction includes the development of infrastructure, the construction of new administrative buildings for all control services, the introduction of modern control systems, the creation of additional lanes for vehicle processing, and the construction of premises for in-depth vehicle inspection. "Thus, the checkpoint will fully create infrastructure that meets international requirements in the context of the development of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space," noted Denis Glebko, emphasizing that the main result of the reconstruction will be an increase in the checkpoint's throughput capacity from the current 270 to 1,000 vehicles per day, including 400 trucks, 580 cars, and 20 buses. Accordingly, the border crossing time will also decrease.

The work on the reconstruction of the facility is being carried out within the framework of the Comprehensive Program for the Development of Infrastructure of Road Checkpoints on the State Border of the Republic of Belarus for 2011-2015, approved by Resolution of the Council of Ministers of February 8, 2011 No. 152. In October 2012, the first phase of the "Grigorovshchina" checkpoint was commissioned - two lanes for departure and one lane for entry were opened for truck traffic, as well as one lane in each direction for cars and buses.
