The reconstruction of the Vitebsk railway station will be completed in June 2010
November 3, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The reconstruction of the Vitebsk railway station should be completed before July 1, 2010. This task was set by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, today during a meeting of the station reconstruction headquarters, according to a BELTA correspondent.
Taking into account the significant reduction in the commissioning deadlines for the facility, all design work should be completed by January 1. In addition, it is necessary to increase the number of builders working here daily to 500-700 people and to determine a single general contractor.
Currently, construction is underway in the left wing of the station and in the administrative building being erected next to it. Repairs have begun on the first platform. In the future, it and the pedestrian bridge leading to other platforms will be covered. "For the convenience of passengers, canopies should also be installed over the second, third, and fourth platforms," noted Alexander Kosinets.
To improve comfort, the station should be made a single complex. In particular, from the comfortable waiting room, people should have direct access to the covered pedestrian bridge and platforms, as is done in Minsk, rather than going out into the open air. Taking this requirement into account, the governor instructed to finalize the entire project. The adjacent infrastructure should also be considered - Priokzalnaya Square, Kirova Street: they should be designed in the same color scheme as the station.
Large-scale work will begin at the facility in the coming days. During the reconstruction, all trolleybus lines and the parking lot will be moved from the station.
The annual passenger traffic through the Vitebsk railway station is 5 million people. Taking into account the developing infrastructure of the regional center, it will grow to 6-7 million in the near future. "Meanwhile, the impression of the station forms the basis of judgment about the city as well. Therefore, we must make every effort to make this facility efficient and presentable," concluded Alexander Kosinets.
The reconstruction and capital repair project of the facility provides for work to be carried out without stopping the station's operation. In 2009, the first start-up complex worth Br7.8 billion was commissioned. This funding was used to reconstruct the right wing of the station building. -0-
