Record snow cover depth recorded in Vitebsk
February 15, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Heavy snowfall over the past weekend has contributed to a new record for snow depth in Vitebsk for all years of meteorological observation. Today it reached 52 cm, the Vitebsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring informed a BELTA correspondent.
The previous record (51 cm) in the regional center was recorded on February 15, 1985. Meanwhile, the snowiest winter was in 2004, when 207 mm of precipitation fell in January and February alone.
On Valentine's Day, precipitation in the region ranged from 7 mm to 13 mm, which corresponds to 70-120% of the ten-day norm. In total, over the past three days, precipitation amounted to 10-23 mm, or almost two ten-day norms. At the same time, the largest amount fell in Polotsk and Vitebsk, and the least in Orsha.
As noted by Adam Konoplich, General Director of RUP "Vitebskavtodor", the difficult weather conditions were not a surprise for the road service workers. People and equipment worked around the clock in a normal mode. A total of 170 snowplows and about 100 salt spreaders were involved in the roads. The satisfactory condition of the roads and increased attention from drivers contributed to the fact that the past weekend in the Vitebsk region passed without accidents, the head added. -0-
