The Zhada Republican Landscape Reserve will be created in the Miory District

In October, a meeting of heads of relevant district services was held on this issue, with the participation of employees of the Institute of Experimental Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. As noted at the meeting, recent field studies have confirmed the uniqueness of the natural complex located in the Miory region. So, it's time to reconsider its status, because currently “Zhada” is a hydrological reserve of local significance. However, the large raised bog plays an important role in preserving biodiversity. 348 species of higher vascular plants (21% of the total number of Belarusian flora representatives) have been registered in this territory. Many animals and plants found there are listed in the Red Book. The uniqueness of the local ecosystems has become the basis for “Zhada” to receive the status of a republican wetland reserve.

It will include lands reserved in 2006. At the same time, the use of the “Strechno” deposit with an area of over 500 hectares for peat extraction is not excluded. It is located on the territory of the Yazno forestry and, according to researchers, is not crucial for the preservation of biological diversity. No protected plant and animal species have been found there, but there is a three-meter peat layer suitable for further development under certain conditions.
